Pilling, Olivia
Olivia Pilling is a young contemporary artist who has already earned a series of critical plaudits for her colourful and expressive paintings. Originally hailing from North West England, she studied Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University before returning to her roots. Although she initially began to show work at the renowned Todmorden Fine Art Gallery, her burgeoning reputation resulted in increasing demand for her work from a number of galleries further afield. Whilst at University she had explored the use of a monochrome technique, allied to a loose approach to brushwork, before the influence of Fauvism became manifest in the outpouring of vibrant colour which now characterises her acrylic paintings.
Taking inspiration from her own surroundings, Olivia’s subjects are often redolent of the landscapes of the post-industrial world, at times rendered in semi-abstract form, but always with a keen eye for detail and narrative. The observer of her work will no doubt recognise a rawness and freshness in her paintings which contribute to a sense of joyfulness. She has exhibited widely throughout the UK and commendably enjoyed successive sellout shows at Collect Art in Lymm, Cheshire. Having already established a growing stature amongst discerning collectors, there is much to look forward to as she resumes her career following a brief hiatus to raise a family.
